Digital marketing is no doubt one of the fastest growing digital businesses in Nigeria and the world at large today. The first registered digital marketing company is said to have started in 2012 (we are hoping to be able to study it in school soon) and since then other marketing companies have come up to create a vast growing industry for the Nigerian economy. These digital stores do not only sell their products but also sell/market products by other startups, big companies and organizations. As a would-be business owner a portfolio is necessary. A portfolio helps to show the client what you can do and what you have to offer. All relevant experience should be in your portfolio either paperback or web.

KNOW YOUR WORTH

The digital marketing profession is large and a lot of people are underpaid. While setting up your brand, find out from other digital marketers how much they get paid according to services rendered, analyze your strengths and make up your own price list. Knowing your worth is very key as a lot of clients offer little amount of money for a lot of work done.

NETWORK

This might be quite similar to the first step but I will still buttress on this. No matter what niche you choose to focus on in your profession, networking is very important. It helps to build a client base for you. While networking you can decide to offer free services to small scale businesses (an instance) and they could become full time customers after a free trial of your work. Follow and add up brands on social media, discuss with other digital marketers. Make useful connection and watch your team grow.

STUDY HOW MARKETING INFLUENCES BRAND

I will try as much as possible to elaborate on this step. For instance, your team is hired to boost sales for a new product from ‘Gucci’ and you decide to use the ‘buy-two-get-one-free’ approach, it may temporarily increase net profit for that product but the ‘Gucci’ brand is a luxurious one and this sale could hurt their brand image. In summary, not every marketing campaign is good for all business; the approach described could favor a startup but not a well-known luxurious brand.

A digital marketer ensures business survival online. They help to use proven marketing strategies that attract traffic and bring result and customer satisfaction, they help to provide a much better Return Of Investment (ROI) than other methods of marketing.
Being a digital marketer, in order to maximize your client retention rate, focus on helping your clients achieve their long-term goals as a business .From increasing their market share and outselling their competitors to hitting their target annual sales figures, coordinating your marketing strategy’s goals with your clients’ goals is the best way to make sure your work translates into value.
