An interaction that results in data being sent to Analytics is called a“hit” (or “engagement hit”) and include these types:

  1. Event tracking hits
  2. Pageview hits (or screen tracking in apps)
  3. Social plug-in/interaction hits
  4. E-commerce transaction hits
  5. Ecommerce transaction item hits
  6. User-defined hits (custom variables)

Examples:
  • Scrolling down a page (if you have an event listener for that)
  • E-commerce check-out steps
  • Downloading a PDF
  • Watching a video
  • Tracking interaction with tabs within a page: i.e. “a single content area with multiple panels, each associated with a header in a list
Incase you are wondering what makes up Google Analytic traffic stats, those are the kinds of hits that's considered you scored a traffic point on your website for Google.
