Whenever digital marketing is mentioned the first thing that comes to mind is ‘social media’. Social media is the most effective way for businesses of all kinds and sizes to reach prospective customers. I personally love social media marketing out of all other digital marketing strategies because you get to interact, socialize and still make sales from it. There are so many types of social media in the world today but in this post I will be focusing on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram which have been proven to be the most effective in no particular order.


Facebook is the most user friendly social media tool with a total of 2.07billion users in the world currently. It was created in 2004 and was restricted but it is now available to all. Everyone in your Facebook circle is referred to as ‘friend’ so you get to call prospects your friends which is good to nurture customer relationships. While you may have a personal Facebook account, it is advisable to create a business page solely for your business where you can share as much information as you want to. Facebook is the fastest social media app that helps marketing because of its large community of people and Facebook ‘friends’ are rather easier to connect with compared to other platforms.
Here are a few tips to get your business fan page up and running:
Post a status update regularly, include pictures and videos because visual content are catchy
If you offer an incentive or discount on your products regularly, it’s a plus.
Install a page badge to link to your personal profile
Add a Facebook ‘like box’ to your business website

As a digital marketer on twitter, your basic reason for tweeting will be for business so all tweets and hashtags should promote what your business is whilst encouraging followers to retweet and like. Using hashtags on posts originally started on twitter and this feature makes it easier to search for any topic and guides users to related conversations.
Business can communicate and grow customer relationships through constant interaction with followers because just posting your business or services may not immediately grab attention without establishing grounds with your connections. Also, matching your business name and using custom business graphics help establish your brand in the twitter community.
A few tips to help grow your twitter are as follows:
Tweet on topics most of the time; being active on twitter has a lot of advantages, you get to engage with your followers and gain more attention on your page.
Elaborate on your profile space and share information on your business using links, bio and location.
Link your twitter account to other social media platforms, people use this to investigate and confirm which pages are original.

Instagram is a beautiful and unique social media platform with the most devoted users. About 57% of instagram users log on to the site daily. It is an image and video friendly site which is used mostly for fashion business, modeling, architecture, food, event planning, photography, etc. Most instagram users are amateur photographers in the sense that all posts must come with a video or image and users put in time and effort to take a great picture to ensure an active engagement. Instagram is said to be dominated by people aged 18-29 which shows it is mostly used by small scale growing business and is particularly involved in what’s trending.
To grow your instagram page you have to be active and share pictures at least five times a week using an instagram business profile which must contain your location, email & phone number, use a lot of hashtags on posts as there is no limit on this feature. Ensure to engage or follow people associated with your kind of business, for instance if you are a videographer or video editor you are expected to follow movie production pages, actors, photographers, youtubers, etc. this way you can get contracts or referrals from these category of people.
